Six Steps to Strategic Workforce Planning is a practical development programme that equips hospitality and tourism organisations with the capability to connect workforce decisions to business performance.

Using the proven Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning®, participants learn how to interpret workforce data, understand workforce demand and make more informed decisions about recruitment, development and workforce design.

Why it matters?

  • Most of the workforce that will power hospitality and tourism in 2035 is already employed today.
  • Hospitality and tourism have the second lowest staff retention rate of any industry in the UK.

  • By 2030, nearly 60% of workers will need new skills to stay effective.
  • With rising recruitment costs, skills gaps, and an uncertain talent landscape, strategic workforce planning is critical to a resilient, future-ready workforce.

  • Align workforce capacity with business goals and changing market demand
  • Improve retention by strengthening internal progression pathways
  • Access new talent pools and develop skills from within
  • Improve efficiency through smarter workforce utilisation
  • Support service quality and productivity with a more agile and resilient workforce

“The biggest impact of the Six Steps to Strategic Workforce Planning programme was moving workforce planning beyond HR and into the wider business. It gave our managers the tools and confidence to connect workforce data to operational performance and apply it in everyday decisions. They’re now thinking differently about recruitment and workforce design, focusing on internal progression and building long-term capability. That shift is critical for retention, mobility and resilience, and I would strongly encourage other organisations to engage with the programme.” – Kristine Graham, Group HR Manager, McKeever Hotels
