Introducing Threat Awareness eLearning: Embedding resilience into everyday service
In a world of growing uncertainty, safeguarding people, places and services has never mattered more. The national threat level remains “substantial” – meaning a terrorist attack is considered likely – and global instability, now ranked the second highest emerging risk in AXA’s Future Risks Report, continues to create new pressures for organisations where customer experience and operational continuity are central to success.
Against this backdrop, we’re proud to launch our new Threat Awareness eLearning suite, designed to give retail, hospitality, events and venue teams the knowledge, confidence and readiness to spot potential threats, respond effectively, and protect both people and reputation.
Why now?
“The reality is it’s never if, it’s when.”
— Paul Netherton OBE, advisor to the UK Government and Ministry of Defence on resilience, and Threat Awareness eLearning subject matter expert.
This sentiment reflects the operational reality facing organisations today: resilience can no longer be treated as an optional add-on. It must be embedded into everyday practice, much like insurance underpins the responsible management of high-value assets.
And that need is becoming increasingly immediate. With the upcoming implementation of Martyn’s Law (Terrorism Protection Duty 2025), organisations with a capacity of 200 people or more will be required to meet new standards for safety, emergency planning and public protection. For sectors such as retail, hospitality and events, preparedness will soon become not only a moral responsibility but a legal expectation.
Yet recent research by The Workforce Development Trust, surveying over 2,000 UK adults, highlights a concerning disconnect between public expectation and workplace readiness:
- 70% of respondents said they would make small changes to help strengthen national preparedness.
- Yet only 23% of those willing to make such changes would take on training or responsibilities linked to business continuity.
- Fewer than 1 in 5 believe their workplace is ready for a national emergency.
- Only 16% have received clear instructions on what to do in a crisis.
This gap shows the urgent need for organisations to empower their people now, before statutory guidance is finalised and lack of preparedness begins to pose real risk to public safety, service continuity, and revenue.
Embedding resilience today not only prepares teams for future legal duties but strengthens safety, confidence, and operational capability in the face of current and emerging threats.

Embedding resilience into everyday service
Threat awareness is not about instilling fear; it’s about building confidence. It ensures every team member knows how to act decisively to protect customers, colleagues and the wider community.
Integrating threat awareness into everyday practice reinforces that safety and service go hand in hand. It builds public confidence, empowers staff to respond effectively, and embeds resilience that reaches far beyond simply preparing for future regulatory requirements.
For organisations ready to act, our Threat Awareness eLearning offers short, sector-tailored modules that can be deployed rapidly across frontline, property and facilities teams.
