Establishing a new training facility at City Centre Almaza targeting young people and people with disabilities. Phase 2: Operationalising a sustainable model

The site operator, Majid Al Futtaim Group (MAF), is establishing the on-site Almaza Recruitment and Training Centre (ARTC) to deliver training programmes and employment support services in line with its tenant retailers’ needs. All training will result in accredited learning outcomes, certified in line with national standards. The ARTC’s programmes will be targeted at young jobseekers living in the local area; people with disabilities seeking access to employment and skills; and the incumbent staff of the tenant retailers (in terms of relevant up-skilling). In addition, the ARTC will provide job-brokering services for successful graduates, instituting an efficient process for linking them together with the Centre’s open vacancies.

Aim of the project

The ultimate goal is threefold:

  • To support the Centre’s business operations through the timely provision of market-relevant skills for the benefit of its tenant retailers
  • To broaden access to employment and skills for young people and people with disabilities in the local area, thus enhancing their economic opportunities
  • To provide tailored guidance and information to the Centre’s tenant retailers employing workers with disabilities (some of them for the first time), boosting their capacity and stimulating adoption of best practices around disability inclusion
Challenges the project aims to address

The present work-stage (phase 2) builds on the outcomes of phase 1 to operationalise the ARTC and establish the grounds for its sustainable functioning into the future.

The initial phase (phase I) fulfilled an assessment of the market needs; defined an operable business model; and co-ordinated a study tour to Abdali Mall in Amman, Jordan, that EBRD has previously supported under a similar programme (see: www.abdalimall.com).
