Foundation Degree Consultations
Foundation Degrees have been developed to provide pathways for employees to develop higher level skills and, if they wish, have progression to a full honours degree or a professional qualification. Fit for purpose foundation degree frameworks will be an important vehicle in raising higher level skills within our sector.
However, there is currently a plethora of foundation degrees available through colleges and universities. There is therefore no national consensus.
There needs to be a consistent national product that we use to help employers, universities and colleges develop their Foundation Degrees which will be fit for purpose and still have some degree of flexibility for individual employer needs. Foundation Degree Frameworks are currently being developed in four areas:
