NOS Reviews

We are working to review National Occupational Standards (NOS) in our industries, and ensure that they are fit for purpose.

Gambling

People 1st is currently consulting on the existing gambling NOS to ensure that this is still accurate and reflective of sector needs.

This review is being conducted between August 2011 to December 2011 and the consultation is also reviewing the need for an apprenticeship framework. If you would like to be involved in this consultation, please contact kat.thayer@people1st.co.uk

Early Years

People 1st is working with the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) to determine the need and looking at the development of standards and qualifications to assist in raising the profile of chefs working in early years and acknowledge the value in addressing healthy food for healthy lives from the earliest ages.

This project is running from July 2011 to December 2011, with the majority of consultation happening in September and October. If you would like to be involved in this consultation, please contact sophia.nicola@people1st.co.uk

Drinks Dispense

People 1st has recently reviewed the NOS for drinks dispense. These NOS focus on the installation and maintenance of drinks dispense systems in pubs and bars.

Substantial changes have been made, and qualifications and a new apprenticeship framework have now been developed reflecting the NOS.

Food Processing and Cooking NOS

Since September 2008 we have been reviewing and updating the NOS for food processing and cooking and food preparation and cooking.

Recent consultations for our sector qualifications strategy have highlighted that the current standards lack relevance for public sector and large scale catering and are not meeting the requirements of casual and branded dining, such as that offered by large scale employers and chains. We have therefore taken this opportunity to review and update the standards to ensure they are relevant for all.

Hospitality

People 1st has reviewed all the NOS suites for hospitality and these have been approved in all four nations.

A number of new suites have also been developed in quick service and hospitality management, which will be developed into qualifications over the coming months.
