National Skills Strategies

Previously there were only Regional Skills Strategies and although we support the government's devolution approach it is painfully obvious that there needs to be a national strategy on which regional strategies are based.

Pulling in the research outputs from the sector skills agreement we are now discussing the needs of industry and the solutions at skills summits around the UK. Sharing best practice among the nations and regions is a key role of People 1st and you can read more about:

  • the progress in each nation
  • the key issues in each case
  • the proposed solutions and key stakeholders in the process by clicking on the link above. These pages also provide the forthcoming workshop events to which you are welcome to attend (numbers allowing)

How

How do we tie up all the strands to create one National Skills Strategy

National Skills Strategy

Basically:

  • People 1st research employers skills needs
  • People 1st understand the provision currently available
  • Industry workshops look for solutions where gaps exist
  • Work with government and education to develop a National Skills Strategy that all will work towards and delivers industry the skills industry needs
  • People 1st research the money currently spent in the regions or nations – Smarter Spending Reviews
  • Work with all parties to ensure the effective use of public funds
