Independents' Day is a national campaign that promotes and celebrates independent businesses across the UK.
Now in its fourth year, the campaign has quickly become the voice of independent retailers to reach the local community, giving them a chance to be heard and get on people's radar.
In 2013, thousands of independent businesses in over 150 locations across the UK got involved in Independents' Day. Thirteen trade associations and hundreds of stakeholders (councils, business improvement districts, local enterprise partnerships, destination management organisations, town centre managers, town teams etc.) helped spread the word and supported their members and local communities organising activities on or around 4 July.
The campaign gained celebrity support through Theo Paphitis, ministerial support through Skills Minister, Matthew Hancock, and support from the Opposition through the Shadow Business Secretary, Chuka Umunna. Prime Minister David Cameron also tweeted on the day announcing his support.

Independents' Day is a great opportunity to show the value of independent shops to the local community and encourage footfall to your shop on the day. In the run up to 4 July, all independent businesses are encouraged to get involved, download the campaign posters and plan activities on the day in conjunction to other independent businesses in their area to make it a town celebration.

Independents' Day is organised by People 1st. The campaign was launched for the first time in 2011 and previously run by the National Skills Academy for Retail.
