Stonebow Boosts Businesses With Positive Psychology

managerAs the economic challenges continue, managers face increasing pressure to motivate and retain staff through non-financial incentives, yet many lack the leadership and influencing skills needed, according to Stonebow, People 1st's training company.

To tackle the issue, Stonebow has introduced a new leadership programme that equips managers with the skills they need to manage others in an engaging and productive way using psychological tools.

The Accelerated Behavioural Change (ABC) programme features neuro-linguistic programming, transactional analysis, and the ability to read and assess emotions to improve managers' communication skills and instil confidence.

It has also been adapted for in-house trainers so that they can deliver effective motivational techniques for their own group training and improve engagement, rapport and group dynamics.

The new programmes can be found on the new interactive Stonebow website (www.stonebow.co.uk) which contains practical hints and tips on how service-centred businesses can improve their profits, increase productivity and prepare for growth.

Managers can also gain an insight into how they can work on their own behaviour to enhance their leadership skills and gather tips on how they can inspire and get the best from their workforce. Research from Stonebow has found that 40% of a manager's success can be attributed to the behaviours they exhibit rather than the management skills they possess.

Sharon Glancy, managing director of Stonebow, says: “The experience of going through one of the most difficult recessionary periods in history has been incredibly challenging for businesses and their people.

“It sounds clichéd but the foundation for any successful business is its people and the responsibility now lies with managers and leaders to provide the necessary drive and vision to inspire staff. Whilst it may surprise some, motivating employees does not always have to be linked with money.

“Leaders should foster a culture that encourages personal development with the belief that most people are in fact motivated by achievement. The fundamentals of good management are based upon the values and behaviour exhibited by leaders. That is why it is vital that managers provide clear direction to employees and set clearly defined achievable goals.

“Ultimately, a good manager should be able to lead effectively during good and bad times.”
