External quality assurance

The end-point assessment of all apprenticeships must be externally quality assured to ensure that they are valid, consistent and reliable across end-point assessment organisations (EPAOs).

The hospitality, retail, aviation and travel sectors have chosen the employer-led external quality assurance approach which is managed on behalf of industry apprenticeship boards by People 1st.

People 1st is an external quality assurance body approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA).

People 1st has implemented a quality model for the external assurance process that involves a number of supporting elements to ensure an evidence based approach is taken. This aim is to provide assurance that the end-point assessment methods designed, developed and delivered by EPAOs are fit for purpose, holistic, reliable, deliverable, cost effective and independent. Part of the quality model involves the risk based monitoring of EPAOs by People 1st.

On-line EQA system

An online system to manage the external quality assurance process is in place and access will be provided to all approved end-point assessment organisations.

Common approaches and test specifications

Common approach guidance, incorporating the test specifications as referenced in the assessment plans, are available to approved end-point assessment organisations on an individual apprenticeship standard basis. End-point assessment organisations will access these resources directly through the online system. Additionally, end-point assessment organisations are requested to contact eqa@people1st.co.uk and the documents will be provided by email. The contents of these documents remain sensitive and their contents must not be shared outside of the end-point assessment organisation.
