Pre-apprenticeship
People 1st recently carried out an online survey to determine whether there was a need for a pre-apprenticeship and, if so, what this should look like to meet the needs of employers and learners. There was an overwhelming response for one in hospitality and catering suggesting that there was a definite need for this. Feedback suggested that the following areas should be covered through the pre-apprenticeship to better prepare learners for the full apprenticeship framework at level 2.
- Introduction to the sector including an introduction to Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Basic knowledge of the sector
- Basic skills i.e. communication, personal presentation, reflection of learning, time management etc.
- Support for key skills/functional skills element of full apprenticeship framework
- Work placement/work visit
Based on this feedback, People 1st has put together proposals for a pre- apprenticeship programme at level 1 for hospitality and catering on which we have consulted with employers and awarding organisations and have already received some really positive feedback. View the latest version of these proposals.
Lack of consultation feedback on a travel and tourism pre-apprenticeship suggests that there is not a similar need for one and consequently we cannot currently move forward with a pre-apprenticeship in this area. However, we will be looking into this in more detail with employers over the next few weeks. If you feel there is a need for a pre-apprenticeship for travel and tourism, we urge you to review the proposals for hospitality and catering and let us know whether you think this same model would work for travel and tourism.
If you have any thoughts on the pre-apprenticeship proposals that you would like to share with us, please send them to Lucy.Victoria@people1st.co.uk

People 1st sends out a monthly learning provider update, including the latest information on apprenticeship frameworks and delivery.
