Management & Leadership
Stop and Think
As developers and guardians of our future talent managers & leaders in the sector have a huge responsibility.
There are approximately 320,000 people working as managers in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector in the UK. Given that managers are responsible for the search, selection and development of their teams, unless they have the required skills to fulfil this role it is unlikely that the skills in the sector will match the skills required by employer's thereby satisfying and exceeding customer expectations.
- 48,000 managers have no qualifications
- 57,600 managers are only qualified to Level 1
- Management development only begins at Level 3.
- Existing qualifications below this level are focussed on regulatory training rather than the management and leadership of people.
- Managers have been promoted earlier to satisfy the growth requirements
- 61% of vacancies for managers in the sector are proving hard to fill
