Providing employers with skilled candidates
Employment academies were developed by People 1st to give employers skilled candidates for their business and individuals the skills they need to work in the hospitality industry. Our employment academies allow employers that are seeking new team members interview career-focussed individuals, who are ready to interview after a two-week training programme.
How it works
We work with our network of employers to find new job openings and other opportunities to recruit numbers of unemployed jobseekers from Jobcentre Plus. The employers provide us with the relevant details regarding the opportunity, types of individuals they wish to recruit, roles available and recruitment plans; then for each opportunity we arrange a two-week ‘employment academy’ with guaranteed interviews with the employer when the programme is complete.
People 1st is currently working with Jobcentre Plus, training providers and colleges to help employers recruit the best people through our employment academies. Whitbread, Travelodge and Tragus Group – owner of Café Rouge, Bella Italia, Strada and Belgo – are some successful partnerships we have to help businesses find talented job seekers, and get people into work.
The employment academies are based on three different models:
Employer model: A bespoke Employment 1st pre-employment training programme that is designed to meet the recruitment needs of a specific employer, usually for a new hotel or restaurant opening. The pre-employment training programme gives employers a range of possible candidates at assessment days or for interviews.
Provider model: People 1st links employers with providers that are currently running Employment 1st courses and can provide suitable candidates for interviews and work experience opportunities.
Area model: Academies are run in a specific area and People 1st asks employers to let them know about any vacancies they have. We then make sure that academy providers know what kinds of roles are available so that they can put forward suitable candidates for interviews.
Employment academies have helped the Yeo Group save thousands of pounds in recruitment costs, attracting keen and enthusiastic individuals to the business.
Employment academies helped Travelodge in Hounslow and Bethnal Green recruit a new team that was efficient and productive from the first day of operation.
